Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Edwin was exposed to music early in his life. He was in the choir and played saxophone in the symphonic band in his adolescence and joined the orchestra in high school. He studied with Roger Fratena (assistant principal double bass) of the Dallas Symphony and Dr. Mark Foley.
After receiving his BM in music performance, he relocated several times in pursuit of new musical terrain. In his various travels he has played and recorded with many notable artists and masters. Edwin has performed and recorded with The Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Elvin Jones, Ellis, Delfeayo, Jason Marsalis, The Headhunters, Los Hombres Calientes (Grammy nominated Latin Jazz album), Bill Summers, Munyungo Jackson, Donald Harrison Jr., Alvin Batiste, Ronnie, Eloise and Debra Laws, Javier Vercher, DJ Logic, David "Fathead" Newman, John Beasley, Deron Johnson, Otmara Ruiz, Mike Garson, Justo Almario, Leni Stern, Kevin Toney of the Blackbyrds, Will Kennedy, Peter Erskine, Vince Wilburn Jr., Marvin "Smitty" Smith, Jimmy Branly, Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, Roy McCurdy, Ndugu Chancler, Tootie Heath, Joe LaBarbera, Dave Weckl, Mike Clark, Les McCann, Wayne Henderson, Hot Buttered Rhythm, Gecko Turner, Henry Butler, James Clay, Barbara Morrison, Queen Latifah, The Benjamin Wright Orchestra, Russell Ferrante, A Race of Angels, Disney, Bob Mintzer, Arthur Verocai, Stanley Jordan, Richard Marx, Billy Vera, WILL.I.AM, Justin Timberlake, Aloe Blacc, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Natalie Cole and may others.
In addition to a full playing, touring and recording career, he is also on the faculty at USC (University of Southern California) teaching bass & combos in the jazz studies department.
Edwin has also appeared in several feature films including Ray and Dreamgirls and has performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Today Show, Live with Regis and Kelly and the A&E show, "Private Sessions" with Queen Latifah and Programa do Jo in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
